Ethel and Ernest shown at the Tabakalera in San Sebastián

The Tabakalera cultural centre in San Sebastián showed Ethel and Ernest on 11th Nov 2017.  As well as the screening of the feature film they also showed Roger Mainwood’s short film ‘Autobahn’ (1979), which was the first film he made while at the Halas and Batchelor studio.

The Halas and Batchelor studio was “Britain’s biggest and most influential animation studio of the 20th century.”Jez Stewart, curator at the BFI National Archive, responsible for the animation collection.

Ethel and Ernest starts its US cinema release in Los Angeles

Ethel and Ernest starts its US cinema release in December. Dates have been confirmed for screenings in Los Angeles at The Nuart Theatre. The screenings start on 15th of December.

Ethel and Ernest first met in 1928, and The Nuart was built around that time! It was one of the first cinemas bought by Landmark Theatres in 1974.  Landmark Theatres is now the United States’ largest theater chain dedicated to exhibiting and marketing independent and foreign films.

Raymond Briggs to give Q&A at Ethel and Ernest screening in Lewes

A special screening of Raymond Briggs’ Ethel and Ernest will be held at the Lewes Depot cinema on December 10th at 3pm. Raymond Briggs and director Roger Mainwood will be present to take part in a Q and A after the screening.

The Lewes Depot is a three screen independent cinema opened in May 2017. The building is an £8 million refurbishment of the former Harvey’s Brewery Depot warehouse adjacent to the railway station in Lewes, East Sussex. 



Ethel and Ernest wins two awards at Espinho animation festival

CINANIMA International Animated Film Festival was held in Espinho, Portugal (6 -12 Nov 2017). Ethel and Ernest won two awards in the feature film category, Best Feature and the Audience Award.
